I’m proud to announce that this epic lockdown project is now available as a print!

And it’s an absolutely gorgeous print! Take a look at the images below to see the mind-blowing quality up close. Printed in London with great love and care, the paper is Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a heavyweight archival paper which holds the ink beautifully and shows incredible detail. And the colours are out of this world. They need to be glorious, and they are. The whole project is a really a meditation on colour, and an intricate love letter to the ultimate masters of colour, Farrow and Ball.

In case you’re new here, you can read all about the background to this project here. Farrow and Ball also interviewed me about the project for their Chromologist blog, which you can read here.

In a nutshell, during the first Covid 19 lockdown in 2020, I shrank my work, and went from painting huge walls in grand houses to tiny walls on paint charts. This is a print of the original full Farrow and Ball colour chart where it all started. For me the whole project is very much wrapped up in the lockdown - it was a time when our experience of the outside world had to sit in the dreamworld of our imagination. The images I painted are full of mystery and suggestion. They are like tiny snippets of a film or lines from a book. They hint at other places and moments. Imagined worlds. And the paintings are tiny. The pandemic made all of our worlds shrink and the walls of our home took on a whole new significance. Our walls were our world. So in many ways this piece is a diary of that strange time that we shared in 2020.

It’s been wonderful to see this project strike a chord with so many people, and to make so many new connections through my work. Since I launched the print, I have been just inundated with lovely messages from people who’ve received it in the post. Thank you so much everyone! Here are some quotes from a few happy customers:

“Rachel, we have just unfurled your print with utter delight and amazement… absolutely love it!! Each tiny painting is so exquisite and intriguing with its own narrative. Hours of contemplation that I know will inspire generations to come! A real heirloom! Thank you so much.'“
Julie, Brighton

“I’ve been thinking about how do I capture what this year has been - the unexpected, the random, the fragmented, the details, the colour, the absurd, the new friendships, the disconnect, the laughter, the creativity, the searching, the amazing spectrum of colours and experiences that has been life this last year… and then I came across this amazing piece of art and it just perfectly captured what I was looking for. It arrived today and is even more extraordinary in real life. It’s literally a feast for the eyes; I just can’t stop staring at it - from the tiniest detail to the amazing sum total of each vignette.”
Lorna, Conwy, Wales

“Dear Rachel, my print has arrived, all the way over here in San Francisco. I’m over the moon. It’s even more miraculous in person. I’m an art director who happens to be obsessed with Farrow and Ball and with tiny things. Your work literally could not bring me more joy. Thank you for creating this sweet miracle to brighten dark days”
Lulu, San Francisco

“I just wanted to let you know that the print arrived safe and sound and I absolutely love it! It is even more beautiful in the flesh, so to speak, than the photos. It is so beautifully crafted and I could literally stare at it for hours! Many congratulations on creating such a gorgeous piece of work during such challenging times.’”
Alice, Leeds

“Rachel, I have just received your beautiful picture. I am absolutely delighted, it’s a masterpiece, so much so that it has made me feel very emotional. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and putting them into a extremely beautiful idea. When I look at the picture I will think of the lockdown and realise something lovely came out of it.”
Gill, Chelmsford

“What a beautiful, magical print, a whole world unfolds, and what a sweet touch to have a certificate and a statement to contextualise it. All the care and beauty in your work Rachel!”
