BLUE CHINOISERIE

This mural was an absolute joy to paint! It was a new experience for me to paint on such a dark background colour - it's Stiffkey Blue by Farrow and Ball, a colour that I am now totally in love with. As it's such a dense, dark hue, all the bright colours that I was using really popped out. I really enjoyed fusing the traditional Chinese style with a more contemporary aesthetic. This mural also looks great by the light of a coal fire and a candle, as the birds seem to glow in the dark, but that proved very tricky to photograph!

I made a time-lapse film of this one too - click here to see it.
