I'm Rachel Spelling, I'm a London-based mural artist and I launched Studio Spelling in 2014. From the very first sketch to the last coat of varnish, all of the Studio Spelling murals are planned, designed and painted by me. My background is in Fine Art. I have a first class honours degree from Central Saint Martins, and an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths. I have a five year old daughter called Stella, who's had a few too many murals in her room for her liking, but it's a great place to try things out!

I've worked as an artist for years and years, but I started painting murals when I was preparing the room for my new baby girl. I was really indulging my love of interiors, and I spent many happy weeks getting everything ready. I had very clear image in my mind of some tiles I wanted to put on the fireplace, but I couldn't find them anywhere. Suddenly, I realised I could just paint them on. The result was magical; it was as if I had conjured them out of nowhere - I was hooked, and the idea for my business was born!

I used to be called The Big Brush. I spent three brilliant years painting murals in some seriously beautiful houses around London. I then started to get all sorts of ideas for bespoke furniture and accessories that would work well with the murals - I'm married to a carpenter so pretty much anything is possible! So I launched Studio Spelling. Designing and painting murals is still my main thing, but Studio Spelling is also going to be an exciting testbed for other bespoke creations, as well as limited edition prints. I have about a million ideas in the pipeline, so watch this space...

In the meantime, if you have a project in mind, or even just the seed of an idea that you think I might be able to help you with, do get in touch. Most of my work is in London, but I'm also happy to travel. Consultations are free, and I can offer ideas, advice and inspiration with no obligation to book.

TESTIMONIALS

I was looking for a mural artist on behalf of a client and came across Rachel's beautiful work on Instagram. From the beginning she was an absolute delight to work with. The client had a specific idea in mind of what they wanted and Rachel completely took on board their brief but developed it further, introducing some fantastic ideas. The final murals Rachel created were far beyond what we ever expected, and simply beautiful. The client therefore commissioned her for further pieces around the house. She worked so efficiently and was more than happy to work in amongst other trades on site - I've had a number of comments from other trades commenting on her professionalism. I will absolutely be working with Rachel again and recommending her to other designers.
Rebecca Stuart, 'Hundred Acre Wood' and 'Playtime' murals

We can't thank you enough for the mural you painted in Felix's playroom. It's fantastic to have his favourite song and toys immortalised and it was so much fun watching them come alive. We felt you really understood what we were trying to achieve from the outset and you were so professional, efficient and creative to deal with. We loved the whole experience so much we are busy planning what to ask for next! We can't recommend you highly enough!
Sarah, 'I Like the Flowers' mural

Rachel, we are so thrilled with the work you have done. We did a full renovation of a five bedroom house and the playroom is without doubt the highlight! You are a consummate professional and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone who is wanting to make a house a home. Thank you so much.
Candy, 'Under the Sea' mural

Rachel Spelling is a genius! I knew it when I met her at my daughter's party and recommended her immediately when someone asked me for a muralist. My friend was delighted with the work and subsequently I used Rachel for my son's room. She transformed his room into a colourful, fun bedroom that could grow with him and he absolutely loves it (as does everyone who sees it). Thank you Rachel! I wish I had 10 kids just so you could do their rooms!
